Stakeholder Dialogue on Climate Financing
Greetings from the Southern and Eastern Africa Trade Information and Negotiations Institute (SEATINI) Uganda!
Amidst the pressing climate crisis gripping our planet, SEATINI Uganda is honored to host a Stakeholders’ Dialogue titled “Leveraging Taxation as a Sustainable Tool for Climate Financing in Uganda.” This pivotal event seeks to convene a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society representatives, academia, climate change activists, youth advocates, and media partners, to engage in robust discussions on addressing the climate financing gap in Uganda.
Uganda, like many other developing nations, faces a stark reality: despite the urgent need for climate-related interventions, the availability of funds falls far short of requirements. Shockingly, less than 15% of the necessary USD 3.1 billion annually has been allocated for climate interventions in recent years. This dialogue aims to confront this challenge head-on by exploring innovative fiscal policies and tools that can mobilize resources effectively and sustainably.
Key partners for this dialogue include esteemed organizations such as Oxfam in Uganda, the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and Pan African Climate Justice Alliance other governmental and non-governmental entities committed to advancing climate resilience in Uganda. Together, we aim to foster dialogue, share insights, and forge collaborative solutions to propel Uganda towards a climate-resilient future.
